The Series Layered explores the intersection of architecture, materiality, and memory through a process of stacking and layering industrial materials such as polypropylene and steel. Beginning with everyday substances like cardboard and concrete fragments, Hwang Hyungshin gradually evolved his technique into fusing sheets of polypropylene or zinc-plated steel, creating sculptural furniture that blurs the line between design and architecture. The act of layering, both physically and conceptually, reflects the fragmented landscape of urban environments and the accumulation of time and experience within them. Each piece, whether a chair, stool, or table, embodies the rhythm of construction and erosion that defines modern cities, offering a tactile meditation on structure, resilience, and the quiet poetics of built form.
